NHS Trust completes trial on specialist pillows and duvets

Posted: Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Following a successful trial Worthing and Southlands Hospital NHS Trust has purchased 560 Duvets and 1120 Pillows from the Sylvan range manufactured by the Talley Group.

The trial of the Sylvan wipe clean duvets and pillows identified that the products help reduce laundry bills and linen replacement costs whilst also reducing nurses bed making time and enhancing patient care and comfort.

The products also help reduce the risks from associated hospital acquired infections by being specially design and having a totally sealed polyurethane membrane coating preventing any contamination within the duvet or pillows from all forms of bacteria, viruses and soiled liquids.

Emma Cox, Clinical Procurement Specialist from Worthing and Southlands Hospital remarked:

The trial at Worthing and Southlands Hospital was very successful. The staff and the patients have welcomed the transfer to duvets from traditional linens. Patients felt secure, warm and less restricted; nursing staff could not believe the reduction in bed making times. It is also expected to deliver over 100k reductions in linen cost. We are hoping to achieve the same in the West Sussex PCT.

Talley’s Group Operations Manager Kevin Mearns said:

We are delighted with the outcome of the trial, which clearly identified the cost effectiveness and acceptance of this unique range of duvets and pillows.
