International STOP Pressure Ulcers Day, Thursday 21st November!

19th November 2019

With international STOP Pressure Ulcers day taking place on Thursday 21st of November it has been a particularly busy few weeks at our UK head office in Hampshire with the marketing team preparing educational posters and banners for many of our customers.

We are particularly pleased to be supplying fifteen Tissue Viability teams from around the UK with interactive educational materials to help make learning fun as they raise awareness around pressure ulcers and pressure ulcer prevention.

As a UK manufacturer and global supplier of market leading, pressure area care support surfaces this topic is particularly important to us and the statistics behind pressure ulcers are staggering. In the UK alone over 1,300 new pressure ulcers are reported each month and the daily cost of treating pressure ulcers is reported to be more than £1.4 million. Therefore, these wounds continue to represent a significant cost to the NHS despite widespread acceptance that with the right care and equipment, the vast majority of pressure ulcers are preventable.

At Talley we applaud the efforts of all healthcare providers, organisations and individuals who wish to raise awareness around pressure ulcers by participating in STOP Pressure Ulcers day. So, if you are……

  • Sharing information about pressure ulcers by organising an awareness raising event
  • Hosting an educational activity on pressure ulcer prevention and treatment
  • Raising awareness of pressure ulcers with policy makers
  • Reaching out to your local community to inform them about pressure ulcers
  • Engaging with the Stop Pressure Ulcers community via social media

and you would like us to share your activities via our social media then please send details of your events, activities and pictures to us on Twitter (@Talleygroup), Facebook (@talleygroup) or Instagram (@talleygroup). We'd be delighted to shout about your activities and bang the drum of pressure ulcer prevention on your behalf.

With a wide range of free to access resources for STOP Pressure Ulcers day available from both the EPUAP ( http://www.epuap.org/stop-pressure-ulcers/ ) and NHS Improvement (https://nhs.stopthepressure.co.uk/ ) websites it is clear that awareness and quality education are critical to successfully tackling this preventable patient harm.

In the UK the adoption of the SSKIN care bundle has played an important role in reducing pressure ulcer incidence across all care settings and the recent inclusion of ‘assess the risk’ and ‘giving education / sharing learning’ have resulted in the aSSKINg care bundle.

For policy makers, healthcare providers, clinicians, carers or patients wanting to understand more about Support Surfaces please click the following link Understanding support surfaces for a FREE download which helps explain the differences between active and reactive support surfaces and also how to differentiate between hybrid mattresses and full dynamic, air mattresses.

We wish everyone involved in STOP Pressure Ulcer day the best of luck for Thursday 21st November and we look forward to sharing your events and seeing your pictures.

Honorary Tissue Viability Nurse Sue Hopewell says;

We are very happy to help and support so many of our customers this year with education and training resources for their STOP Pressure Ulcers day activities.

We know just how important it is to raise awareness of this critical issue to everyone working in healthcare both in the UK and in countries around the World.

As a company we are committed to providing the highest quality, free to access, on-line pressure ulcer prevention and management education which is why we continue to operate as the Pressure Area Care category partner with Wound Care Today.

This commitment aligns well with the goals of STOP Pressure Ulcers day and the aSSKINg care bundle so we would encourage anyone with an interest in pressure ulcer prevention and management to access this free resource via the Wound Care Today website click here to see the module.
